This evening gannets were all over the place - possible, but very distant Pom. Pah. maybe i'll have a quick look tomorrow a.m.

smashing blog Alastair. i used to live near Leeds and had occasional visits to the coast including Whitby, but I never matched the range of birds you see here.

One request; could you turn on the RSS feed? It helps me spot when you put new entries.

regards

John

John,
Thanks for the compliment, ah but now you want me to do technical stuff. I did try to make this work before and it didn't for some wonderous reason - will attempt soon.

I think it's sign in -> settings -> Site Feeds -> Allow Blog Feed = Full

good luck from a fellow technophobe!

What does all that mean then? What's an RSS feed?

Nick - an RSS feed broadcasts that you have put a new entry out. You need a reader to pick it up - start off at google.com/reader. I find it a useful way to keep track of the huge number of bird (and other) blogs.

Many thanks Alastair

Cheers Dorsetdipper I too follow quite a number of birding blogs (must get out and do some of the real stuff sometime!) so this is very useful.

If you use Firefox rather than IE you can get a neat add-on that monitors your feeds and blips in the bottom corner when something is posted. I found it to be an irritant and deleted it but if you use Firefox (a much superior and more secure tool IMHO) you may like it. Firefox and all its lovely add-ons is available from the Mozilla pages (I recommend ReminderFox and the del.ic.ious tool bar as rather useful add-ons.)
