House Martins

House Martins in the village this evening, a Whitethroat on the way to work and a Blackcap singing briefly by the church.

a Whitethroat on the way to work

How did you know it was on its way to work?

My Field Guide to What Birds are Doing - Castanza and Reeves - suggests that a Common Whitethroat flying too fast, with food morsels around the base of the bill and a document folder under its left wing is "... almost certainly on its way to work."

I thought you reviewed this rather useful little book in BB some months ago Martin, surprised you don't recall the "Birds and Work" chapter.
